How to convert hourly to annual salary
The formula is simple: hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. A standard full-time UK contract is 37.5 hours a week for 52 weeks — paid holiday is included in that 52.
Once you have the gross annual figure, HMRC deducts Income Tax and National Insurance based on your tax code. Most people are on 1257L, giving you a £12,570 personal allowance before any Income Tax is charged.
Zero-hours & part-time work
If you don't work the same hours every week, use your average. For term-time only roles (e.g. schools), set weeks to 39 and multiply the result by your actual paid weeks — this calculator assumes even pay across the year.
Overtime paid at 1.5× or 2× is taxed at your normal marginal rate — plug the extra annual overtime into the full calculator below.
